The 2025 GCSE results season brought welcome news for schools that had invested in AI-powered learning platforms. Across a cohort of 312 schools that had adopted AI tutoring tools for at least one full academic year, average grade improvements were 23% above the national mean.

The Numbers

National average improvement in grades 4+ across all GCSE subjects moved from 64.2% in 2024 to 66.8% in 2025. In the schools using AI tutoring platforms, the equivalent figure moved from 63.1% to 68.0% — nearly double the national rate of improvement.

What Drove the Improvement?

Post-results analysis points to three primary factors: increased revision hours, targeted gap-filling, and reduced exam anxiety. Students at schools with AI tutoring platforms completed significantly more revision hours in the three months before examinations than students without access.

Looking to 2026

The 2025 results will accelerate AI platform adoption across the sector. Several large multi-academy trusts are now in negotiations to deploy AI tutoring platforms trust-wide ahead of the 2026 examination season.
